Covid-19: Positivity Rate Above 6 Percent In CT, 14 New Deaths Reported

The COVID-19-related death toll in Connecticut has hit another dubious milestone as the state contends with a rising infection rate.

In its latest update on Thursday, April 14, the state Department of Public Health reported 14 new virus-related deaths in the past week, as the number of deaths topped 10,800, reaching 10,809 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Over the past seven days, the positive infection rate in Connecticut continues to rise, up to an average of 6.26 percent after holding steady below 2 percent for several weeks earlier in 2022.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that in the past week, there were an average of nearly 55,000 COVID-19 tests administered per day, resulting in 3,442 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus daily.

Twelve more COVID-19 patients were admitted into Connecticut hospitals, bringing the total being treated up to 139 after staying below 100 for much of March.

Officials said that as of April 14, 3,033,331 Connecticut residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 2,719,987 have completed the vaccination process. The state has also administered 1,495,660 first booster shots and 68,317 second boosters.

A breakdown of which populations have received the most vaccines, by age group on April 14:

  • 65+: >95 percent
  • 55-64: >95 percent;
  • 35-44: 94 percent;
  • 45-54: 91 percent;
  • 25-34: 90 percent;
  • 16-17: 88 percent;
  • 18-24: 85 percent;
  • 12-15: 81 percent;
  • 5-11: 48 percent.

  • Fairfield: 204,732 (2,704 deaths);
  • New Haven: 196,791 (2,812);
  • Hartford: 178,274 (3,127);

  • Middlesex: 28,289 (479);
  • Windham: 25,777 (301);
  • Tolland: 20,716 (272);
  • Unknown: 2,211 (1).
